MEDFORD, Mass.-- Both Stonehill indoor track and field teams posted solid efforts on Saturday afternoon at the Tufts Stampede Invitational, as the Skyhawk men placed second and the Stonehill women finished sixth in the 14-team field in competition at the Gantcher Center.

Senior Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.) set a school record in the 600 meters on the men's side with a time of 1:22.87 in the event, while sophomore Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) won the 55 meters for the second straight week with a time of 6.46. Juniors Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) and David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) took top honors for the Skyhawks in the 3,000 and 800 meters, respectively, with times of 8:45.64 and 1.58.70, while senior Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) enjoyed solid efforts in three individual events, as he placed third in both the 55 meter hurdles (7.92) and high jump (1.91 meters) while finishing sixth in the long jump (6.18 meters). The men's distance medley relay team of Gill, Metzger, junior Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) and sophomore Mark Porcaro (Medfield, Mass.) placed second with a time of 10:29.89, while the 4 X 200 relay and 4 X 400 relay finished second and third, respectively. Stonehill posted a team score of 96.5 points to finish as the top Division II entrant on the day, as the Skyhawks placed behind only Williams in the team competition.

On the women's side, freshman Meaghan Murphy (North Conway, N.H.) and sophomore Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) each placed third in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, respectively, with times of 10:58.24 and 18:42.47, while freshman Bridget Conway (Floral Park, N.Y.) was third in the triple jump with a mark of 9.28 meters. The women's distance medley relay team of senior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.), junior Amanda Carnevale (Stony Point, N.Y.), sophomore Kristina Coriarty (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman Bridget DeVincent (Attleboro, Mass.) placed second in the event with a time of 12:41.03, as Stonehill posted a team score of 37.5 points in the competition that was also won by Williams.

Both Stonehill squads will compete next weekend at the Boston University Valentine Classic, with action beginning on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. and continuing on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
