Kait Mendall had a strong performace, tossing a complete game, three-hitter in game one of Stonehill's sweep of visiting Franklin Pierce on Wednesday.

Easton, Mass. - Seniors Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.) and Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) combined to hit three homeruns to help power Stonehill to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Franklin Pierce by scores of 2-1 and 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Father Gartland Field.

With the victories, the Skyhawks and Ravens now have identical records of 4-16, but Stonehill improves to 4-4 in the Northeast-10, while Franklin Pierce falls to 0-8 in league action.

The Ravens took an early lead in game one, scoring on an RBI groundout by Kristen Tracy following a pair of singles in the first inning

Stonehill tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth when Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, Mass.) singled and then stole second base. Marrero then doubled down the left field line scoring Brides.

The Skyhawks took the lead for good in the fifth when Young blasted her second homer of the season to right field.

After yielding the run in the first, starter Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass.) settled down and allowed just one hit the rest of the way, while striking out five to pick up her first win of the season.

Stonehill scored two runs in the bottom of the first in game two to stake freshman hurler Kellie Reardon (Burlington, Mass.) to an early lead. The runs came courtesy of an RBI double by Brides and an RBI groundout by Meghan Sheehy (East Islip, N.Y.).

Franklin Pierce cut the Skyhawk advantage in half in the top of the third when Kiley Molinari scored on a double by Tracy.

Stonehill bumped its lead to 4-1 in bottom of the frame when Marrero homered to left field and Young blasted a shot to deep center that landed in the soccer field stands.

The Ravens mounted a rally in the fifth, but a key play by Young killed Franklin Pierce's momentum. With runners on first and second, Molinari singled to center scoring the lead runner, Emily Griffin. Brides' throw towards home was cutoff at the pitcher's mound by Young, who caught Jayme Bilafer in no-man's land between second and third and she was tagged out trying to dive back into second base. Reardon then struck Tracy out looking to end the inning.

The Skyhawks scratched another run home in the fifth when Marerro scored on a throwing error.

The win for Reardon in game two was the first of her collegiate career after she went seven innings, scattering eight hits and striking out five.

Freshman Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y.) and sophomore Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I.) each had a pair of hits in game two, as did Marrero, who went a 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI in the doubleheader.

Young, meanwhile, added two more homers to her resume, extending her school record to 20.

Stonehill, now winners of three straight games, return to the field on Thursday when it visits St. Michael's beginning at 3:30 p.m.
