Easton, Mass. - Behind excellent pitching and a powerful offense, Stonehill swept a pair of games from visiting Assumption on Sunday afternoon at Fr. Gartland Field. The wins, 4-0 and 8-3, were the Skyhawks' sixth and seventh straight wins, improving them to 15-7 overall and 7-1 in Northeast-10 action.

In game one, Stonehill took advantage of a Greyhound error and scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning. The Skyhawks had five singles in the inning, including four in a row to produce their runs.

Stonehill's top four batters went a combined 6-for-10 in the game with four RBI and two runs scored.

Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) went the distance for the purple and white, scattering five hits and striking out three for her fifth win of the season.

Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and Kate Brides (Bridgewater, Mass.) each went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Stonehill jumped out early in game two, scoring four runs in the first three innings to take the lead but Amanda Monge's three-run blast in the top of the fourth brought Assumption within striking distance.

The Skyhawks responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by a two-run single from Kristen Clark (Brockton, Mass.).

Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) then launched her sixth homer of the season leading off the bottom of the sixth to give Stonehill an 8-3 lead. The blast was the 16th of her career, tying her with Heather O'Keefe (1989-92) for the all-time school record. The next homer she hits will not only give her the school record but will tie her for the single season record, which she set back in 2006 as a freshman.

Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.) picked up her fifth win of the season, going six innings and allowing three runs on three hits and striking out three. She helped her own cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate with a stolen base.

Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass.) went 2-for-3 in game two with an RBI and three runs scored, while Folan was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

The Skyhawks will put their seven game winning streak on the line on Wednesday when they travel to Bryant for meeting with the Conference-leading Bulldogs, who are sporting a 10-0 mark in Northeast-10 action.
