WALTHAM, Mass.-- Junior Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass.) and sophomore Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) combined for eight hits and seven RBI in leading Stonehill to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader from Bentley by scores of 11-2 in the opener and 2-0 in the nightcap in games played Thursday afternoon at Bentley Field.

The visiting Skyhawks (12-20, 11-11 Northeast-10) plated five runs in their first at-bat in the opener on RBI singles by Ippolito and junior Lauren Polselli (Portsmouth, R.I.) coupled with a pair of errors and a steal of home by junior Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.). After the host Falcons (1-31, 1-17 Northeast-10) got on the board on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Alex Hitchcock (Abington, Mass.), Stonehill plated two more in the second on Ippolito's two-run triple to take a 7-1 lead, and after Bentley scored its final run of the day in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by junior Briana Kneeland (Winthrop, Mass.), Young drove in three of the final four runs for the visitors with an RBI single in the fourth and a two-run single in the sixth that followed an RB I single off the bat of junior Lauren Rappoli (Wilmington, Mass.) to account for the final score.

Young finished with three hits in the opening game triumph for Stonehill, which also received two hits each Ippolito and Rappoli in support of junior Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.), who scattered seven hits and fanned three in going the distance to pick up her second win of the spring. Kneeland and senior Allison Ciummei (Acton, Mass.) each had two hits in the first game setback for Bentley, as junior Diane Morrison (Massapequa, N.Y.) took the loss on the mound.

The Skyhawks plated the only runs they would need in the second inning of the nightcap on Flanagan's RBI double and an error, and sophomore Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.) took care of the rest on the mound for Stonehill, scattering five hits and striking out six to record her fourth shutout and six win of the season. Ippolito and fellow juniors Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and Gina Vivona (Seaford, N.Y.) each had two hits in the second contest for the visitors, while Hitchcock collected two of the Falcons' five hits in the setback as freshman Ashley Messina (Hanover, Mass.) allowed just one earned run in taking the loss on the mound for the hosts.

Stonehill heads to Colchester, Vt. on Saturday afternoon to take on Saint Michael's in a Northeast-10 twinbill that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Bentley hosts Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Bentley Field beginning at 3:30 p.m.
