ORLANDO, Fla.-- The 2006 Stonehill softball season began on Saturday afternoon with a pair of contests at the Rebel Spring Games, as the Skyhawks dropped an 8-2 decision to Northern Kentucky in the opener before falling by an 8-7 margin in the nightcap to Ashland (Ohio).

Freshman Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs in the nightcap setback for Stonehill, which built an early 6-0 lead before succumbing in the late innings. Sophomore Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass.) added a run-scoring single against Ashland as well for the Skyhawks.

Sophomore Gina Vivona (Seaford, N.Y.) pitched six total innings on the day for Stonehill in relief of sophomore Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) and freshman Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.).

Stonehill continues play at the Rebel Spring Games on Sunday morning by squaring off with Lewis at 8:50 a.m. and South Dakota at 10:40 a.m.
