May 6, 2006

Three members of the Stonehill softball team were named Friday evening to the 2006 Northeast-10 all-conference squad for their efforts in the Skyhawks' best season in five years this spring.

Sophomore Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) earned first team all-league accolades as a designated player for her efforts this spring, as she ranked second on the team in batting average (.346), home runs (4) and RBI (22) while adding 10 doubles among her 37 total hits in 40 contests. Flanagan posted a .551 slugging percentage and a .474 on-base percentage as well for Head Coach Danielle Delude's squad while drawing a team-best 25 walks.

Sophomore Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass./Savio Prep) and freshman Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) each earned third-team all-Northeast-10 honors for their performances, as Young enjoyed a solid rookie campaign by leading Stonehill in batting average (.350) and RBI (25) while belting a school single-season record seven home runs. Young, who also posted a .980 fielding percentage from her catcher's spot, tied Flanagan for the team lead with 10 doubles as part of her 41 hits on the spring, as she posted a team-best .615 slugging percentage as well. Ippolito appeared in all 40 contests in the outfield for the Skyhawks, as she batted .297 with 38 hits (second highest on the team) that included six doubles, three triples, a homer and 15 RBI. Ippolito also handled all 60 fielding chances she had without an error and recorded three outfield assists while recording three steals and a .414 slugging percentage.

Stonehill recorded its best season in five years this spring, as the Skyhawks posted the sixth 20-win season in school history in finishing 21-18-1 overall, including a 14-13-1 slate in Northeast-10 play that was good for seventh in the final conference standings. Stonehill's overall and league win totals are the highest for any Skyhawk squad since 2001.
