EASTON, Mass.-- Freshman Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) rapped out three hits and drove in six runs, including a career-high five RBI in the opener, to lift Stonehill to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader from Bentley by scores of 12-2 in the opener and 3-0 in the nightcap in games played Saturday afternoon at Gartland Field.

Young belted a pair of home runs (her third and fourth round-trippers of the season) in the opening game triumph for the host Skyhawks (15-10-1, 8-5-1 Northeast-10), who have already surpassed their entire win total of last season. Stonehill collected four homers in the opener, as senior Christine Grenache (Leominster, Mass.) added her third of the season and sophomore Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) collected her first of the year. Grenache's three-run blast in the first gave the hosts a 4-2 lead, while Young's second of the day that came after Folan's round-tripper in the sixth helped close out the scoring for the Skyhawks, who also received an RBI double off the bat of sophomore Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.).

The visiting Falcons (4-23, 1-11 Northeast-10) had taken a 2-0 lead in their first at-bat on an RBI double by junior Allison Ciummei (Acton, Mass.) that was followed by a run-scoring single off the bat of freshman Alex Hitchcock (Abington, Mass.), but that would prove to be all of the runs for the afternoon for Bentley, which rapped out 10 hits in the opener, including three by Hitchcock and two each from junior Meghan Hart (North Brookfield, Mass.), sophomore Leigh Cavanaugh (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman Ashley DeRosa (Wethersfield, Conn.). Freshman Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.) picked up the win on the mound in the opener for Stonehill with five strikeouts to improve to 5-4 on the season, while junior Maureen McGinn (St. Albans, Vt.) allowed six runs in three innings to fall to 1-10 for Bentley.

Sophomore Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) limited Bentley to three hits and retired the final 14 batters she faced on the mound for Stonehill in the nightcap, as she fanned five to improve to 10-2 on the season. Young and Flanagan each delivered RBI singles for the Skyhawks, who also received the second home run of the season from freshman Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.), who joined Flanagan with two hits each in the win for the hosts. Freshman Sarah Hanley (Foxboro, Mass.) allowed three hits and struck out seven over five innings of work in suffering the second game setback on the mound for the Falcons.

Stonehill hosts Merrimack in a Northeast-10 doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Gartland Field beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Bentley travels to Manchester, N.H. on Tuesday afternoon to take on Southern New Hampshire in a league twinbill at 3:30 p.m.
