EASTON, Mass.-- Senior Kristi Edmunds (East Syracuse, N.Y.) drove in three runs to lead LeMoyne to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader from Stonehill by scores of 9-1 in the opener and 8-0 in the nightcap in games played Saturday afternoon at Gartland Field.

The visiting Dolphins (31-5, 22-2 Northeast-10) jumped to a 6-0 third inning lead by taking advantage of six walks, a wild pitch and a hit batsman, as LeMoyne used a five-run second inning to break things open that was highlighted by a pair of bases-loaded walks to junior Jennifer Winters (Apalachin, N.Y.) and sophomore Lindsay Spaziani (Horseheads, N.Y.), a sacrifice fly by freshman Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y.) and a two-run single by sophomore Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y.). The visitors used an unearned run in the third for that 6-0 edge, and the host Chieftains (13-23-1, 11-14-1 Northeast-10) plated their lone run of the day in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout by freshman Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.). The Dolphins closed out the scoring with two more runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Edmunds and senior Kim Kalec (Horseheads, N.Y.).

DesLauriers and Kalec each had two hits in the opener for LeMoyne, as junior Erin Phaneuf (Dracut, Mass.) improved to 12-1 on the mound for the Dolphins by allowing three hits and a run while fanning four. Senior Nicole Pichette (Exeter, R.I.), junior Christine Grenache (Leominster, Mass.) and freshman Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.) collected hits in the opener for Stonehill, as sophomore Tracey Cidlevich (Milton, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for the Chieftains.

LeMoyne jumped out to a 4-0 first inning advantage in the nightcap on a two-run single by Edmunds as well as a fielder’s choice groundout to Kalec that followed a passed ball, and the Dolphins added three unearned runs in the fourth on a pair of errors before closing out the scoring in the fifth on a throwing error. Spaziani and Winters each had two hits in the nightcap triumph for LeMoyne, as sophomore Martha Senko (Pine City, N.Y.) picked up her 10th win in 11 pitching decisions for the Dolphins, scattering three hits and and striking out five. Grenache, sophomore Kristen Demick (East Hampton, Conn.) and freshman Lauren Rappoli (Wilmington, Mass.) picked up hits in the nightcap setback for Stonehill, as freshman Jessica Sachse (East Williston, N.Y.) allowed just one earned run and struck out two in suffering the setback on the mound for the Chieftains.

Stonehill closes out its 2005 campaign on Sunday afternoon when the Chieftains host American International in a Northeast-10 doubleheader at Gartland Field beginning at Noon, while LeMoyne travels to Worcester, Mass. on Sunday afternoon to take on Assumption in a Northeast-10 twinbill that begins at 1:00 p.m.
