EASTON, Mass.-- Top-seeded Concordia (N.Y.) and fourth-seeded Assumption each posted victories in first round play of the 2007 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis East Regionals Thursday afternoon on Stonehill College's Courts, as the Clippers notched a 5-0 triumph over eighth-seeded and host Stonehill while the Greyhounds collected a 5-1 win over fifth-seeded Dowling in the first match of the day.

Freshman Nik Boerger (Munster, Germany) was a winner in both singles and doubles play for Concordia (15-2), which also received a straight set singles triumph from junior Kirill Azovtsev (St. Petersburg, Russia). Junior Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) and freshman Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) teamed up for an 8-1 win at number one doubles for the Clippers, which also received an 8-2 triumph from sophomore Josep Molet (Sabadell, Spain ) and freshman Henning Ruenz (Mulheim-Karlich, Germany) at the number two spot. Boerger and junior John Cassas (Bogota, Colombia) claimed the final Concordia point with an 8-1 win at number three doubles.

The host Skyhawks close out the season at 15-6 overall with their second straight appearance in the NCAA tournament and third in four seasons, as Stonehill tied the school single-season record for victories it had set during the 2006 campaign.

In the day's first match, Assumption remained perfect on the year in improving to 17-0 behind senior Matt Stopp (Altoona, Pa.), who posted wins in both singles and doubles play for the Greyhounds. Freshman Tom Nowak (Medfield, Mass.) notched a straight-set win as well at number five singles for Assumption, as Stopp and junior Antonio Recalde (Ciudad del Este, Paraguay) were 8-2 victors at number one doubles.

Freshmen Petr Grischchenko (Moscow, Russia) and Saulo Gonzales (Lima, Peru) notched the lone point of the day for Dowling (8-8) with a win at number two doubles, as the Golden Lions were forced to default at number six singles and number three doubles due to injury.

Concordia and Assumption will meet in a re-match of last year's NCAA Division II East Regional second round contest on Friday morning on the Stonehill Courts beginning at 11:00 a.m., as the winner advances to the NCAA Division II National Quarterfinals next Wednesday in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
