EASTON, Mass.-- The Stonehill men's tennis team began its quest for the 2006 Northeast-10 Conference championship on Wednesday afternoon by extending its school single-season record for victories, as the second-seeded Skyhawks posted a 5-1 win over seventh-seeded Pace in quarterfinal round play on the Stonehill Courts.

Juniors Matt Grabala (Bristol, Conn.) and Al Santosuosso (Reading, Mass.) were winners in both singles and doubles play on the day for Stonehill, which improves to 15-4 overall and advances to face third-seeded Bentley in Northeast-10 semi-final round play on Saturday afternoon at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. beginning at 3:30 p.m. Freshman Will Herchel (Hampden, Mass.) added a straight-set win at number four singles for the Skyhawks, as Grabala teamed with senior Michael Pelaggi (Dedham, Mass.) for an 8-3 triumph at number one doubles while Santosuosso and sophomore Michael Allen (Norwell, Mass.) were 8-3 winners at the number three doubles spot.

Senior Marko Prljevic (Belgrade, Serbia) and junior Paul Kosinski (Staten Island, N.Y.) picked up the lone point of the day for the visiting Setters with an 8-6 triumph at number two doubles, as Pace closes out the season at 7-11 overall.

Stonehill claimed the regular season match-up with Bentley by a 5-4 margin back on March 30th on the Stonehill Courts. Saturday's other Northeast-10 semi-final match will pit top-seeded Assumption against fourth-seeded Bryant.
