EASTON, Mass.—Sophomore Michael Semedo (Waterbury, Conn.) netted a natural hat trick and fellow sophomore Kenardo Mitchell (Bridgeport, Conn.) added a pair of tallies to lead Southern Connecticut to an 8-2 Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer victory over Stonehill Wednesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Semedo collected all three of his goals in the opening 30 minutes of play for the visiting Owls (5-2-1, 4-0-1 Northeast-10), who also received first half markers from seniors Ilias Calaitzidis (Montreal, Que.) and Eyal Yazdi (Rishon-Iezion, Israel) in jumping out to a 5-1 lead at the break. Mitchell sandwiched both of his goals around a tally from junior Ed Swanson (Holtsville, N.Y.) in the second half for Southern Connecticut, which also received single assists from Yazdi, graduate student Kieron Jennings (Dagenhan, England), senior Edwin Vasquez (Farmingdale, N.Y.), junior Marco Pozo (Stamford, Conn.) and freshmen Pedro Mouren (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Tom Mattera (Norwalk, Conn.) as the Owls ran their win streak to five straight.

Junior Joseph Sousa (Shelton, Conn.) and freshman Mike McWilliams (Portsmouth, R.I.) each netted goals in the setback for the host Skyhawks (2-4-1, 1-3 Northeast-10), as senior Brian Gregorio (Naugatuck, Conn.) assisted on both Stonehill tallies.

Senior David Faugno (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore Brendan Lawless (Orleans, Mass.) combined for four saves in goal on the afternoon for Southern Connecticut, while senior Chad Etting (Plymouth, Conn.) and freshman Danny Kerl (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) each made three stops in net for Stonehill as the Owls outshot the Skyhawks by a 20-8 margin for the match.

Stonehill hosts Assumption in a Northeast-10 outing on Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Southern Connecticut hosts Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 match on Saturday evening in New Haven, Conn. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
