Dana Borges, ’13, is in his third season as assistant ice hockey coach at Stonehill College. Borges, who was a member of Stonehill’s ice hockey team from 2009-13, returned to his alma mater for the 2014-15 season to coach alongside his father and current Stonehill head coach Dave Borges.

In June 2013, Borges was the recipient of the Northeast-10 Conference’s inaugural Man of the Year award, which honors senior student-athletes for their collective achievements in service, leadership, athletics, and academics.

In 100 career games in a Skyhawk uniform, Borges tallied 87 points on 29 goals and 58 assists, and he led the NE-10 as a senior with 37 points. During his senior campaign, Borges was a semifinalist for the Joe Concannon Award, which recognizes the top American-born college hockey player in New England playing at the NCAA Division II or III level. At the conclusion of his Stonehill career, Borges signed a professional contract with the Evry Peaux Rouges of France’s Division II league.

The two-time captain also excelled in the classroom and the community during his time at Stonehill. As a senior, Borges became the first member of the ice hockey team to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Additionally, he was the recipient of the Edward E. Martin Male Scholar-Athlete Award (given annually to the senior student-athlete who demonstrates combined excellence in academics, athletics, and citizenship), and the Fr. John McCarthy, C.S.C., Leadership Award (given annually to the senior student-athlete that demonstrates exemplary leadership). He was also a three-time NE-10 Academic All-Conference selection and three-time St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, medalist for having the highest cumulative grade point average on the ice hockey team.

Borges currently serves as the Director of Hockey for the Walpole Express.  He is responsible for the management and player development of all youth teams.  He has also become actively involved with USA Hockey as an associate coach-in-chief for the state of Massachusetts.
