BRIDGEWATER, Mass.-- Sophomores Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) and Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass.) each netted a goal and an assist to lead Stonehill to a 7-3 non-league college ice hockey victory over Suffolk in the season opener for both teams Thursday evening at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.

The two teams traded goals in the opening 20 minutes of play before the host Skyhawks (1-0) used a three goal outburst in the first 7:23 of the middle stanza to open up a 4-1 cushion, as O'Brien, sophomore Mike Cafferty (Arlington, Mass.) and senior Evan Spencer (Billerica, Mass.) all tallied in that time span as Stonehill jumped out to a 5-2 lead after two. Reissfelder and fellow sophomore Frank Amato (West Springfield, Mass.) added third period markers to close out the scoring for the hosts, who netted three power play goals on the evening.

Freshman Zachary Cantin (Walpole, Mass.) netted the first goal of the night for the Skyhawks, who also received a pair of assists off the sticks of junior Rob Carpenter (Cohasset, Mass.) and freshman Pete Roundy (Simsbury, Conn.). Amato added a goal and an assist for the winners, who also received single helpers from junior Chase Feole (Windham, N.H.) and sophomores James Killeen (Derry, N.H.), John Sommers (Manchester, Conn.) and James Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.).

Juniors Dan Pencinger (Randolph, N.J.) and Josh Barboza (Fall River, Mass.), along with sophomore Mitch Sabo (Bell Canyon, Calif.), netted goals in the setback for the visiting Rams (0-1), who received assists off the sticks of senior John Delaney (Quincy, Mass.), junior Joe Diorio (Newington, Conn.), sophomores John Rocchio (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Bryan Myers (Rochester, N.Y.) and freshman Mike Mondello (Revere, Mass.).

Senior Josh Green (Mendon, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Stonehill with an 18-save effort, while senior Kevin Adam (Peabody, Mass.) made 29 stops in 53-plus minutes of action in net for Suffolk, as sophomore Mark Grignon (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) made three saves over the final six-plus minutes of play as the Skyhawks outshot the Rams by a 39-21 margin for the contest.

Stonehill heads to Portsmouth, R.I. on Saturday afternoon for a non-league match-up with Salve Regina that begins at 2:30 p.m., while Suffolk heads to Auburn, Mass. on Saturday evening to take on Nichols in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m.
