MANCHESTER, N.H.-- Junior Mike Foley (Medford, Mass.) netted a goal and four assists for five points as top-seeded Saint Anselm netted five markers on special teams to post a 9-3 victory over second-seeded Stonehill in the first game of the 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Ice Hockey Championship series Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Arena.

The host Hawks, now 13-11-3 overall on the season, grab a 1-0 lead in the set with the visiting Skyhawks, now 13-12-1 on the year, and the two teams meet again in the second game of the championship series on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Arena beginning at 5:00 p.m. Should Stonehill win Sunday's game and force a tie in the series, a 20-minute mini-game would immediately to follow to decide the title.

Goals by senior Derek Evjenth (Saratoga, Calif.) and junior Pat Forshner (Natick, Mass.) in the first 12:13 of action staked Saint Anselm to an early 2-0 advantage, but junior Brian Davis's (Foxboro, Mass.) power play tally with 3:30 remaining in the opening stanza enabled Stonehill to cut that margin in half at 2-1 after 20 minutes of action. The Hawks extended their lead to 4-1 on power play markers by Foley and junior Colin Fitzpatrick (Westwood, Mass.) in the first 9:58 of the middle stanza, and after sophomore Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass.) accounted for the second Skyhawk goal with 5:09 to play in the period, senior Brett Smith (Hudson, Mass.) gave the hosts a 5-2 cushion with a goal that came just 39 seconds later.

Saint Anselm iced its triumph by netting three goals in a minute span in the final period of action, as sophomore Mike Nunziato's (Guilford, Conn.) power play goal at the 7:26 mark was followed by senior Andrew Gartman's (East Norwich, N.Y.) just 35 seconds later. Senior Danny Ohlson (York, Maine) accounted for the final two Hawk goals, including a shorthanded marker with 3:03 remaining, that sandwiched Davis's second goal of the night for Stonehill to close out the scoring for the contest.

Fitzpatrick added three assists to go with his goal in finishing with four points in the win for Saint Anselm, which also received a goal and an assist each from Forshner and Evjenth, while senior Evan Spencer (Billerica, Mass.), juniors Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine) and Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) and sophomores Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.), Billy Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.) and James Killeen (Derry, N.H.) each collected assists in the setback for Stonehill.

Senior Jason Rafuse (Nepean, Ont.) picked up the win in goal for Saint Anselm with 20 saves in 49-plus minutes of action, while sophomore Pat Gallagher (Framingham, Mass.) made two stops in the final 10-plus minutes of play. Senior Josh Green (Mendon, Mass.) made 33 saves in 48 minutes in net for Stonehill, while fellow senior Matt Gorman (Southboro, Mass.) made six stops in the final 12 minutes as the Hawks outshot the Skyhawks by a 48-25 margin for the contest.
