BRIDGEWATER, Mass.-- Freshman Pete Roundy (Simsbury, Conn.) netted his first career hat trick, while junior Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) added a pair of goals and two assists for four points as Stonehill claimed its third straight victory and ran its unbeaten streak to five with a 9-1 non-league college ice hockey triumph over Franklin Pierce Saturday evening at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.
The host Skyhawks (9-10-1), who have posted an 8-3-1 mark since December 6th, scored three times in a 4:40 span midway through the opening period to grab a 3-0 advantage after 20 minutes of play on the strength of markers by Roundy, Zanetti and sophomore James Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.). Roundy and sophomore Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) extended Stonehill's edge to 5-0 with goals that came 1:22 apart early in the second stanza, and after junior Peter Wilson (Marshfield, Mass.) got the visiting Ravens (5-13-1) on the board with a power play goal at the 7:59 mark, the Skyhawks grabbed a 7-1 lead when sophomore Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass.) scored on a 4-on-4 situation and Roundy completed his hat trick. Zanetti and sophomore Frank Amato (Springfield, Mass.) each tallied in the final period to account for the final score.
O'Brien added three assists to join Zanetti with four points in the win for Stonehill, while Florentino chipped in with a pair of helpers to finish with three points for the Skyhawks. Junior Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine) recorded three assists for the winners, who also received single helpers off the sticks of senior Evan Spencer (Billerica, Mass.), junior Chase Feole (Windham, N.H.) and sophomores James Killeen (Derry, N.H.) and Frank Cavaliere (Winthrop, Mass.). Senior Brian DelSavio (Orangeburg, N.Y.) and junior Joseph Fields (Lansdale, Pa.) assisted on Wilson's goal for Franklin Pierce.
Senior Josh Green (Mendon, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Stonehill by stopping 29 shots on the night, while juniors Spencer Utman (Brockville, Ont.) and Steve Moore (Londonderry, N.H.) combined for 27 saves in net for Franklin Pierce as the Skyhawks outshot the Ravens by a 36-30 margin for the contest.
Stonehill heads to Hooksett, N.H. on Tuesday evening for a non-league match-up with Southern New Hampshire at the Ice Den that faces off at 7:30 p.m., while Franklin Pierce hosts Fitchburg State in an ECAC Northeast outing on Monday evening at Broadhurst Arena in Winchendon, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
