WINCHENDON, Mass.-- Junior John Durkin's (Scituate, Mass.) power play goal 52 seconds into overtime lifted Stonehill to a 4-3 Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey victory over Franklin Pierce Monday evening at Broadhurst Arena.

Durkin's extra session marker lifted the visiting Skyhawks (3-8, 2-0 Northeast-10) to the triumph and sole possession of first place in the league standings, as he converted feeds from junior Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) and sophomore Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) on the game-winner. Stonehill had taken a 2-0 first period lead on goals off the sticks of Zanetti and junior Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine), and the Skyhawks extended their advantage to 3-0 after 40 minutes of action on Curran's second marker of the night before the host Ravens (3-6-2, 1-2 Northeast-10) came storming back with three goals in the third period, including a pair that came 28 seconds apart late in regulation, to force the overtime session. Franklin Pierce was called for a double minor at the end of regulation, resulting in the power play chance that Durkin converted for Stonehill.

Durkin added a pair of assists to finish with three points in the win for the Skyhawks, who also received a pair of helpers off the stick of O'Brien as well as a single assist from junior Brian Davis (Foxboro, Mass.). Senior Brian DelSavio (Orangeburg, N.Y.) netted a goal and two assists in the setback for Franklin Pierce, which also received markers off the sticks of junior Ben Reynolds (Wallingford, Pa.) and sophomore Rob Perretta (Staten Island, N.Y.), who scored the game-tying tally with 3:57 to play in regulation. Junior Joseph Fields (Lansdale, Pa.) added a pair of assists on the night for the Ravens, who also received single helpers from freshmen Joe McCarthy (Boston, Mass.) and Stephen Murphy (Boston, Mass.).

Senior Matt Gorman (Southboro, Mass.), who was named earlier in the day as the Northeast-10 Goalie of the Week, picked up the win in net for Stonehill with a 32-save effort, while junior Spencer Utman (Canton, N.Y.) made 37 stops in goal for Franklin Pierce as the Skyhawks outshot the Ravens by a 41-35 margin for the contest.

Stonehill will be idle until after the New Year, as the Skyhawks resume play on Friday, January 19th by heading to Worcester, Mass. to take on Worcester State in an ECAC Northeast outing that faces off at 5:30 p.m. Franklin Pierce will also be idle until after the New Year, as the Ravens return to action on Saturday, January 6th by heading to West Springfield, Mass. to take on Western New England in an ECAC Northeast match-up that begins at 7:00 p.m.
