KINGSTON, R.I.-- Freshman Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and an assist to lead Stonehill to a 4-2 non-league college ice hockey victory over Worcester State in opening round play of the University of Rhode Island Thanksgiving Classic at Brad Boss Arena.

Senior Brian Dudley (Waltham, Mass.) also collected three points with a goal and two assists in the win for the Skyhawks (2-4), who will face either Suffolk or host Rhode Island in the championship round on Saturday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Dudley gave Stonehill a 1-0 advantage with 2:49 remaining in the opening period when he converted a power play tally on feeds from O'Brien and freshman James Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.), and senior Brian Lewis's (Cohasset, Mass.) unassisted marker just 1:45 later staked the Skyhawks to a 2-0 advantage after one. O'Brien's first collegiate tally on assists from Dudley and senior Craig Pasquantonio (Randolph, Mass.), Stonehill's second power play score of the contest, gave the Skyhawks a 3-0 cushion after 40 minutes of play, and his second goal of the afternoon on feeds from Dudley and sophomore Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) with 8:10 remaining closed out the Stonehill scoring.

Third period goals by sophomores Nathan Perreault (Smithfield, R.I.) and Michael Hanlon (Leicester, Mass.) sandwiched O'Brien's second tally and accounted for the scoring for the Lancers (1-5-1), as sophomore Bryan Calabro (Billerica, Mass.) assisted on both goals for Worcester State, which also received a helper from freshman William Knauber (Cheektowaga, N.Y.).

Junior Matt Gorman (Southboro, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Stonehill with six saves in the middle stanza, as senior Billy Petrucci (East Bridgewater, Mass.) stopped all six shots he saw in the opening period for the Skyhawks, which also received four third period saves from junior Josh Green (Mendon, Mass.). Freshman Jason Richardson (Perkasie, Pa.) made 40 saves in goal for Worcester State as Stonehill outshot the Lancers by a 44-18 margin for the contest.

Worcester State will play in the consolation round of the Rhode Island Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday afternoon at Brad Boss Arena against either Suffolk or host Rhode Island at 4:00 p.m.
