BRIDGEWATER, Mass.-- Freshman Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) netted a goal and three assists to lead Stonehill to a 6-2 Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey victory over Franklin Pierce Monday evening at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.
O'Brien staked the host Skyhawks (5-6, 2-1 Northeast-10) to an early 1-0 lead just 13 seconds into the contest, but the visiting Ravens (1-7-2, 1-2 Northeast-10) evened matters at the 7:21 mark on a tally by sophomore Bob Noonan (South Boston, Mass.). Senior Brian Dudley's (Waltham, Mass.) power play goal 12:41 into the opening stanza gave Stonehill a 2-1 cushion after 20 minutes, and second period markers off the sticks of senior Brian Lewis (Cohasset, Mass.) and sophomore Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) extended the hosts' advantage to 4-1 after two. Third period tallies by sophomores Chase Feole (Windham, N.H.) and Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine) accounted for the final two Stonehill goals of the evening, as those goals sandwiched a Franklin Pierce power play marker off the stick of sophomore Joseph Fields (Landsdale, Pa.).
Senior Craig Pasquantonio (Randolph, Mass.), sophomore John Durkin (Scituate, Mass.) and freshman Mike Devine (South Boston, Mass.) each posted a pair of assists in the win for Stonehill, which also received single helpers off the sticks of Dudley, Lewis and junior Matt Pollara (Plymouth, Mass.). Senior Jason Pierce (Maynard, Mass.), juniors Chuck Matthews (Needham, Mass.) and C.J. Demmons (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and freshman Courson Schneider (New York, N.Y.) each registered assists in the setback for Franklin Pierce.
Junior Josh Green (Mendon, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Stonehill with a 27-save effort, while seniors Robert Arduini (Fulton, N.Y.) and Dennis Millman (Billerica, Mass.) combined for 29 stops in net for Franklin Pierce as the Skyhawks outshot the Ravens by a 35-29 margin for the contest.
Stonehill will be idle until Saturday, January 21st when the Skyhawks entertain Worcester State in an ECAC Northeast match-up at the Bridgewater Ice Arena that faces- off at 8:00 p.m., while Franklin Pierce will be idle until Monday, January 2nd when the Ravens host Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 outing in Winchendon, Mass. that begins at 7:00 p.m.
