St. Michael's Visits Hangar On Saturday

Junior Matt Hall had 23 points and seven rebounds in Stonehill's 68-58 win over St. Anselm Wednesday.

North Easton, Mass. - Now winners of four straight games, Stonehill returns to action Saturday afternoon when it hosts the 6-5 Purple Knights of St. Michael's, who sit at the opposite end of the spectrum having dropped four straight.

The Skyhawks will be out for revenge of sorts after the Purple Knights took last year's meeting in Colchester, 92-76. In that contest, St. Michael's scored 53 points in the first half and made a season-high 15 three pointers and a 13 of their 14 free throw attempts.

Prior to last year's loss, however, the Skyhawks had won seven straight against the Purple Knights and still have a four game winning streak against them at home.

This year's version of the Purple Knights features the Northeast-10's leading scorer in senior Brian Monahan, who averages 23.4 points a game and also ranks second in rebounding at 9.8 boards a night. Their outside threat, James Sorrentine, hasn't seen action in the last two games for St. Michael's, but is the Conference's ninth leading scorer at 16.2 points and sits atop the league rankings in three-pointers made per game at 3.6.

For Stonehill, Nick Smith (Colonia, N.J./Colonia), who just cracked the 1,000 point barrier on Wednesday, has enjoyed tremendous success in his career against St. Michael's. He is averaging 22 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 55 percent (17-for-31) from the field and 47 percent (7-for-15) from behind the arc in the two career games.

The two teams rank 1-2 in the Conference in three-point shooting percentages, with Sorrentine's marksmanship leading the way for the Purple Knights, but it is actually Smith who has the most made three-pointers (38) of any player in the NE-10. Skyhawk freshman Vince Rosario (Perth Amboy, N.J/Cardinal McCarrick.) ranks second with 34 makes from behind the arc and junior Matt Hall (Springfield, Mass./Central) also ranks in the top 10 with 31. Hall, coming off of his fourth 20+ point game of the year, joins Smith as the only players in the Conference to have made 80+ field goals, 30+ three-pointers and 30+ free throws.

Following Saturday's contest, Stonehill will only play two games over the next 11 days beginning with next Thursday's contest at Merrimack.
