Skyhawks Return To Hardwood In NYIT Classic

North Easton, Mass. - After a 1-2 start at the season-opening Disney Tipoff Classic, Stonehill gets back to action on Friday when they take part in the New York Tech Classic in Old Westbury, N.Y.

The Skyhawks will play two games in two days beginning with a 5:00 p.m. tip against Queens College.

The Knights are led by sophomore Khaleef Allicott who averaged 10.1 points a game a season ago and junior Mike Liander, the team's leading returning rebounder at 4.4 per game. They will have to find a replacement for the departed Bradd Wierzibicki, the East Coast Conference player of the year who averaged 25.4 points a night.

Stonehill, meanwhile will be looking to even its record after dropping its last two contests by a total of five points, including an amazing 114-113 three overtime loss to Columbus State. Nick Smith (Colonia, N.J.) averaged 21.7 points per game and shoot 51 percent from the floor, as he earned all-tournament accolades. He just missed eclipsing his career-high of 29 points, with a 28-point, eight rebound performance in the loss to the Cougars. Also playing well in the Sunshine state was sophomore A.J. Rudowitz (Moore Township, N.J.). He averaged 13.3 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals in the three games, including an excellent all-around performance with 12 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals in the win over Barry.

On Saturday the Skyhawks face the host Bears, who are coming of a season that saw them go 20-9 and win the regular season East Coast Conference crown. They are led by preseason player of the year Bryant Lassiter. A 5-10 junior guard, the Bay Shore, N.Y. native averaged 17.8 points per game, as the Bears scored almost 73 points per game.

Following this weekend's games, the Skyhawks have two more road games before opening the home portion of their 2007-08 slate with Franklin Pierce on Saturday, December 1st.
