Pairings Set For Northeast-10 Championships

North Easton, Mass. - The Northeast-10 Conference has released the pairings for the upcoming postseason conference tournament in both men's and women's basketball.

The Stonehill men, seeded fifth after completing the regular season at 16-14 overall and 12-10 in the Conference, will host 12th seeded American International on Saturday at 2p.m. at Merkert Gymnasium.

The Skyhawk women, who are ranked a season-high 11th in the most recent release of the USA Today/ESPN Division II National Poll, captured their first outright regular season Northeast-10 championship since 1994-95 after finishing Conference play at 19-3.

At 23-4 overall, Stonehill is the top seed on the women's side of the bracket and will play at home as long as they are alive in the tournament.

They will host the winner of the Southern Connecticut-Pace first round matchup on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The game between the Owls and the Setters, which will take place Sunday afternoon, is a meeting of two teams the Skyhawks defeated during the regular season. In the Stonehill meeting with Southern Connecticut, the Skyhawks opened the game on a 14-4 run and never looked back as Bethany Tighe (North Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

A road win over Pace followed Stonehill's win over the Owls, a matchup that saw Kelsey Simonds (Middleboro, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) notch a double-double with 20 points and a season-high 12 rebounds.

The men, meanwhile, defeated the Yellow Jackets 68-62 behind 19 points from Nick Smith (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) and 15 points and six rebounds from A.J. Rudowitz (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe).

Should the men defeat American International, they would travel to face Pace on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
