Streaking Skyhawks Face Yellow Jackets

Streaking Skyhawks Entertain Yellow Jackets

Junior Colin Scanlon is averaging seven rebounds a game in his last four contests.

North Easton, Mass. - Stonehill enter tonight's game riding high, winners of six straight games since their last loss, which came more than a month ago at the hands of the nation's No. 1 team, Bentley. During the streak, Stonehill is shooting 49 percent from the floor and 45 percent from behind the arc. Junior Matt Hall (Springfield, Mass.) has led the way with three 20+ point games, including a 24-point showing his last time out, an 84-81 win over Merrimack.

The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, arrive in Easton having split their last four games and a defeat in their last outing, a 76-62 road decision to Southern Connecticut on Saturday. In that matchup, American International never led and trailed by as many as 23 to the Owls, who broke open the game early in the second half.

Aikeem Vanderhorst, a sophomore forward, leads AIC with a 13.9 point per game average, while shooting 51 percent from the field. Ryan Leak and Colson Senat join him in double figures at 13.3 and 10.5 points, respectively. Senat also grabs a team-best 7.3 boards, good for tenth in the Northeast-10.

For Stonehill, Freshman Vince Rosario (Perth Amboy, N.J.) has added an extra punch to the offense, and is now one of four Skyhawks to average double figures (11.5 ppg). He has done most of his damage from behind the three point line, connecting on 21 of his last 36 attempts to move into first place in the Northeast-10 in three point accuracy at 49 percent. In his last two contests alone, he is averaging 19 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 12-for-20 from the field and 11-for-18 from behind the arc.

With the three-point marksmanship of Rosario leading the way, Stonehill is the only team in the Northeast-10 shooting 40 percent or better from three-point territory. In addition to Rosario (1st), Nick Smith (12th) and Hall (15th) all rank in the top 15 in three-point shooting. And even though Merrimack (397) has attempted more three-pointers than Stonehill (390), the Skyhawks have connected on more (156-148). In fact the combination of Hall (35), Rosario (45) and Smith (45) have made (125) more triples than 12 of the other 14 teams in the NE-10.

Junior Colin Scanlon (Centreville, Va.) has been a monster on the glass in his last four games. He is averaging 7.0 boards a game during that span, including picking up nine in the win over Merrimack. Earlier this year he set a career-high with 15 caroms versus Columbus (Ga.) State.

In last year's meeting, the Yellow Jackets took a 63-58 decision in Springfield, behind Jeff Dosado's 19 points and five three pointers. Smith led the Skyhawks with 16 points and six boards. At 7-8 overall, the Yellow Jackets are 0-6 in Northeast-10 play on the road this season.
