Skyhawks Reel Off Fourth Straight Win, 8-5 Over Suffolk

Boston, Mass. - The Skyhawks continued their hot streak, winning their fourth in a row, taking down the Suffolk Rams 8-5 behind two stellar periods and a hat trick from junior Zachary Cantin (Saugus, Mass.). 

Stonehill was on target in the first period, as Cantin scored the first goal for the Skyhawks at the 5:40 mark, and freshman Bill Harris (Weymouth, Mass.) added to the lead two and ahlf minutes later.  Niles Moore cut the Stonehill lead in half, however Harris's sixth goal of the season gave the Skyhawks a 3-1 after the first 20 minutes.

In the second, Dan Pecinger scored less than three minutes into the period to trim the lead to 3-2. However, James Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) scored six minutes later on assists from Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) and Chris Rogers (Westford, Mass.) to give Stonehill the two goal lead. 

Cantin scored his second goal of the game with eight minutes left in the period, and senior Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass.) finished off the scoring for the Skyhawks as they went into the third with a 6-2 advantage. 

Stonehill was hurt by two penalties in the beginning of the final period and Suffolk capitalized, scoring twice in the first eight and a half minutes, and then drawing within one at the 15:43 mark.

The Skyhawks showed poise despite the shrinking  lead, and responded on the scoreboard as senior Frank Amato (West Springfield, Mass.) scored his third goal of the season to make it a 7-5 game one minute later. with 52 seconds left, Cantin scored his third goal to give Stonehill an 8-5 cushion that they wouldn't relinquish. 

Cantin's hat trick was the first of his career, and Rogers had three assists in just his third game of the season.  O'Brien totaled three assists, including the 100th of his career, becoming the first Skyhawk to reach that milestone.  He now stands in third place on Stonehill's all-time scoring list with 134 career points. 

Mike Manna (Framingham, Mass.) made 28 stops in net as the Skyhawks improved to 4-7 with the win.  Stonehill goes for their fifth straight victory on Monday when they play their first home game in almost two months, taking on Salve Regina, with gametime set for 7:00 p.m.
