Mia Borley was named an assistant coach for the Stonehill field hockey program in March 2023. She joins the coaching staff of fellow University of Maine alumna Danielle Aviani as the Skyhawks goalkeeping coach.

Borley graduated from Maine last December with a Bachelor’s Degree in kinesiology and physical education. The five-year starting goalkeeper for the Black Bears was a two-time All-America East performer, earning Goalkeeper of the Year and first team honors in 2021. She was also a two-time America East All-Tournament team selection and named Most Outstanding Player in 2021 in leading Maine to its first America East title and NCAA Tournament bid. Maine posted a 60-31 record over her five seasons in goal, including an impressive 31-6 clip in America East play.

Borley, a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Northeast selection in 2021, started 89 of Maine’s 91 games over her collegiate career, posting a 1.65 goals against average and .717 save percentage with 14 shutouts in over 5,440-minutes in goal. She earned America East Defensive Player of the Week honors twice, with NFHCA National Defensive Player honors once, and America East Rookie of the Week accolades twice as a freshman.

Borley got her coaching start as a counselor and clinician at University of Maine Field Hockey Camp and Elite Field Hockey Camp at Bentley University during her summers as an undergraduate. She has also officiated winter high school field hockey league games during the winter month at UMaine.

Borley is a native of Durham, England, and has represented both England and Wales in international play, most recently for Wales at the U-23 level, attending various senior training camps.

Aviani on Borley: "With an impressive Division I athletic background and specialization in goalkeeping, Mia brings extensive knowledge and playing experience from various countries,” said Aviani, who is entering her second year as head coach at Stonehill. “We share a strong bond as fellow Maine graduates, proudly representing the Black Bears and their esteemed field hockey program. With our shared values and dedication to excellence, I am thrilled to welcome Mia to Stonehill. She is passionate about learning and developing as a coach and will be a great asset for our program as we continue our transition to Division I.”
