Waltham, Mass. - On the second round of sudden-death penalty strokes, Bentley freshman Tori Bergantino was successful on her attempt and junior All-America goalkeeper Alyssa Sliney denied the bid of Michaela Deasy (North Falmouth, Mass.), giving the Falcons a 2-1 victory over Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon.

The first round of five strokes ended at 3-3 when an apparent successful stroke by Bentley junior Abbie DeMusis was waved off by the officials after she dragged her stick. Lauren Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.), Laura Nimon (Gardiner, Maine) and Ashley March (Schwenksville, Pa.) made their shots to extend the penalty strokes to a second round

That sent the match to sudden death, and on the first set of attempts, both St. Jean and Stonehill junior Claire Hourihan (East Amherst, N.Y.) were successful.

In regulation Bentley struck first, with senior Danielle Marquis knocking in a rebound with 20:48 left in the first following a save by Stonehill keeper Courtney Osier (South Dennis, Mass.).  The Skyhawks scored the equalizer with 17:40 left in regulation on a drive from just inside the circle by Hourihan.

Both teams had several chances in overtime, and in fact combined for ten penalty corners, including four apiece in the first extra session.

Sliney finished with 11 saves for the Falcons who improved to 10-5 overall and 10-3 in the Northeast-10

Osier had five saves for Stonehill, which had an 18-11 advantage in shots but dropped to 7-7 overall and 7-6 NE-10 following its third overtime loss in its last four games.

The Skyhawks return to action when they host American International on Tuesday at 4 pm.
