Ladino, Skyhawks Take Down UMass-Lowell, 3-1

North Easton, Mass. - Sophomore Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass.) has been more of a playmaker than a goal scorer so far in her brief career. So much so that she had only one career goal entering the much-anticipated matchup between Stonehill and UMass-Lowell. That all changed on Saturday afternoon after Ladino found the back of the cage on two occasions catapulting Stonehill to a 3-1 win over the RiverHawks at W.B. Mason Stadium.

Lowell, who entered the game ranked No. 2 in the preseason NFCHA poll and were selected by the NE-10 Conference coaches to win the regular season crown, scored early when Jaci Moulton scored off a penalty corner with an assist from Jill Tierney less than three minutes into the contest.

Ladino responded with her second career goal less than two minutes later to knot the score at 1-1. She then scored an unassisted tally early in the second half when she took her own rebound and beat RiverHawk goalkeeper Danielle Dodier after being initially turned away.

Claire Hourihan (East Amherst, N.Y.)  wrapped up the scoring with her second goal of the season, when she floated a ball over the outstretched arms of Dodier that found the right corner of the cage.

Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Stonehill, playing all 70 minutes and making two saves.

The Skyhawks, now 4-0 on the season, including a 2-0 ledger in Northeast-10 play return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Franklin Pierce.
