Nimon’s Heroics Continue In 1-0 Win

Boxscore

North Easton, Mass. - Junior Laura Nimon (Gardiner, Maine) continued her storybook stretch, scoring her second game-winning goal in as many games, and third game-winner in the last four, lifting Stonehill to a 1-0 overtime win over visiting St. Michael's at W.B. Mason Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Unlike their first matchup, where Skyhawks netminder Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) only needed to make two saves in Stonehill's 3-2 win, today she turned away a season-high 13 to record her fourth shutout of the season.

Meanwhile St. Michael's keeper Jordan Smalling produced a similar performance to their August 29th match, stopping one more shot Saturday (13) than she did in the previous meeting (12).

Nimon, who also had clinching tallies in wins over Southern Connecticut and American International, now has four goals her last four games.

The Skyhawk defense thwarted several Purple Knight scoring attempts, including neutralizing three straight penalty corners in overtime with five minutes left.

Nimon almost scored in regulation but her attempt at the three minute mark was denied by Smalling. She would answer later however, when she found the back of the cage with 32 seconds left in overtime.

Stonehill, now improves to 11-1 overall and 9-1 in Northeast-10 action. Next up for the Skyhawks is Bentley, a team that ended their season a last year and who shares first-place with Stonehill. That game is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. in Waltham.
