Kilborn Named Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week

Junior Jeffery Payne (West Haven, Conn.) has 508 rushing yards and seven overall touchdowns this season.

North Easton, Mass. - Junior defensive back Jon Kilborn (North Dartmouth, Mass.) has been named Northeast-10 defensive player of the week it was announced on Monday by the conference office.

Kilborn was a huge reason the Skyhawks secured their fifth win of the season, a 24-14 win over Merrimack last Friday. He recorded a game-high 14 tackles, intercepted three passes and broke up two more as Stonehill secured its first winning season since 1996.

Two of his interceptions came as the Warriors had marched deep into Skyhawk territory, helping keep Stonehill ranked first in the Northeast-10 in red zone defense.

The three interceptions tied a school record set by Sean Daley in a 35-14 win over Assumption in 1995.

Stonehill picked off five passes in the win, upping their turnover margin to +17, good for second in the country.

Also receiving conference recognition was Jeffery Payne (West Haven, Conn.), who was named the conference's weekly honor roll after scoring two touchdowns in the win. He scored the first Stonehill touchdown on a 16 yard run and had the game-changing play - a 74 yard kickoff return for a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, giving the Skyhawks a 21-14 lead.

Stonehill, 5-4 overall and 5-3 in Northeast-10 play, returns to the field on Saturday in its 2007 season finale, a 1:00 p.m. kickoff against American International.
