Clifford, Marban Capture Top Honors For Equestrian During Competition At IHSA Regionals

BOXFORD, Mass.-- Several individuals posted solid performances for the Stonehill equestrian team on Sunday afternoon during competition at the IHSA Regional Championships.

Sophomore Becca Clifford (Rehoboth, Mass.) was the champion in the novice fences for the Skyhawks, while senior Heather Marban (Ridgefield, Conn.) was the reserve champion in the intermediate flat. Senior Mary Shawn DeGaetano (South Huntington, N.Y.) placed third in the intermediate fences for Stonehill, while senior Sara Zelazny (San Diego, Calif.) was fifth in the walk trot canter. Sophomore Jamie Marsalise (Laurel Hollow, N.Y.) also posted a fifth place finish in the open fences for the Skyhawks on a ride off for reserve champion honors in the final Cacchione Cup standings, as that award is presented to the top individual rider in the region.

Stonehill, which yesterday earned its second IHSA Zone 1, Region 4 championship in three seasons, will compete at the IHSA Zone Championships to be hosted by Mount Holyoke next Saturday morning in South Hadley, Mass. beginning at 9:00 a.m. The top two teams in the zone will advance to next month's IHSA National Championships to be held in Springfield, Mass.
