TROY, N.Y.-- Junior Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.) drove in three runs with a pair of hits as Stonehill completed a sweep of a college baseball doubleheader from Saint Rose with a 10-0 non-league victory in the nightcap at Joe Bruno Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Skyhawks also posted a shutout win in the opener, notching a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference triumph over the Golden Knights.

In the opening Northeast-10 affair, senior Brian Nelson (Greenville, R.I.) tossed a complete-game four hitter and struck out six to improve to 2-0 on the mound for the visiting Skyhawks (13-11, 8-3 Northeast-10), as he has now pitched 17 1/3 scoreless innings dating back to April 1st. Senior Sean Lawrence's (New Rochelle, N.Y.) RBI single in the top of the fifth broke open a scoreless tie and provided the only run that Stonehill would need, and junior Adam Pardo (Hanover, Mass.) provided a pair of insurance tallies for the visitors in the eighth with a two-run single. Lawrence had two of the Skyhawks' seven hits in the opener in support of Nelson's gem.

Sophomore Jeremiah St. Louis (Tupper Lake, N.Y.) allowed six hits and seven walks over 7 1/3 innings on the mound in the opener for the host Golden Knights (4-26, 0-13 Northeast-10) while fanning seven, as four different players collected hits off Nelson for Saint Rose.

Stonehill jumped out to a 2-0 cushion through three innings of the nightcap on a bases loaded walk to junior Tom Aldrich (New Canaan, Conn.) and an RBI double by sophomore David Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.), and the Skyhawks plated three more in the fourth on a Vaughn RBI single that was followed by a two-run double off the bat of senior Coley Lyons (West Roxbury, Mass.). Aldrich's RBI single in the fifth extended the visitors' lead to 6-0, and Vaughn's two-run single in the seventh closed out his day and gave Stonehill an 8-0 cushion. A wild pitch in the eighth and an RBI single in the ninth off the bat of freshman Javier Guzman (San Juan, P.R.) closed out the Skyhawk scoring, as the visitors received three hits from sophomore Ryan Halloran (Tyngsboro, Mass.) as well as two hits each from Vaughn, Lawrence and Fradette as part of a 14-hit attack.

Sophomore Andy Hillier (Hanover, Mass.) combined for three relievers on a six-hit shutout to pick up his third straight victory on the mound for Stonehill, as he allowed five hits and struck out four. Junior Chris Herrmann (Chelmsford, Mass.) allowed one hit and fanned three in two innings for the Skyhawks, who also received a scoreless inning each from senior Dean Chiusano (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and freshman Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.).

Senior Michael Murphy (New City, N.Y.) collected two of Saint Rose's six hits in the nightcap, as senior Ryan Tatlock (Amsterdam, N.Y.) allowed seven hits and four walks in four innings of work with four strikeouts in taking the loss on the mound for the Golden Knights.

Stonehill hosts Bryant in the first of a three-game Northeast-10 set on Tuesday afternoon at Gorman Field beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Saint Rose travels to Worcester, Mass. on Monday afternoon to take on Assumption in a Northeast-10 outing at 3:30 p.m.
