MANCHESTER, N.H.-- Senior Anthony Modoono (Lexington, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs to back a complete-game effort on the mound by junior Ryan Williams (Lynnfield, Mass.) as Saint Anselm posted a 4-2 Northeast-10 Conference baseball victory over Stonehill Thursday afternoon at Sullivan Park.

The host Hawks (9-11, 2-1 Northeast-10) scored all the runs they would need in their first at-bat in plating three tallies to gain a split of the two-game home-and-home set, as Modoono's two-run double that was followed by an RBI single off the bat of senior Ryan Call (Hopkinton, Mass.) gave Saint Anselm a quick 3-0 cushion. The visiting Skyhawks (9-9, 5-1 Northeast-10), who saw their six-game winning streak come to an end with the setback, plated single runs in the fifth on an RBI single by junior Tom Aldrich (New Canaan, Conn.) and the sixth on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore David Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.) to close to within one, but the Hawks closed out the scoring in the bottom of the sixth with an insurance run that came on a passed ball, allowing junior Jerod Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y.) to score.

Williams took care of the rest on the mound for Saint Anselm, as he scattered seven hits and allowed one earned run while striking out nine to improve to a perfect 3-0 on the season. Edmondson collected two of the Hawks' six hits on the day, as Saint Anselm also received safeties off the bats of junior Wayne MacKay (Melrose, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Hussey (Danvers, Mass.).

Aldrich had a pair of hits to go with his RBI in the setback for Stonehill, which received a pair of doubles off the bat of senior Sean Lawrence (New Rochelle, N.Y.) as well as singles from senior T.J. Piscatelli (Norfolk, Mass.) and junior Adam Pardo (Hanover, Mass.). Junior Nick SantaBarbara (Middleton, Mass.) allowed all six hits and four runs in seven innings of the work on the mound for the Skyhawks with five strikeouts, falling to 2-2 on the season, as junior Chris Herrmann (Chelmsford, Mass.) worked a scoreless eighth for the visitors.

Stonehill heads to Rindge, N.H. on Saturday afternoon for a Northeast-10 twinbill with 11th-ranked Franklin Pierce that begins at Noon, while Saint Anselm travels to Lowell, Mass. on Friday afternoon for a Northeast-10 doubleheader with 26th-ranked UMass Lowell that begins at 4:00 p.m.
