WORCESTER, Mass.-- Sophomore David Fradette's (Goffstown, N.H.) RBI single in the top of the eighth snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted Stonehill to a 4-3 Northeast-10 Conference baseball victory over Assumption and a sweep of a two-game home-and-home league set Thursday afternoon at Rocheleau Field.

The visiting Skyhawks (21-11, 15-3 Northeast-10) extended their winning streak to 10 straight in the triumph, matching their longest such skein in six years and the second longest in school history. Stonehill, which last won 10 straight in April 2000, took a 1-0 first inning lead on an RBI double by junior Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.), but the host Greyhounds (7-26, 4-14 Northeast-10) evened matters at 1-1 in the sixth on a fielder's choice by junior Matt Hopkins (Cranston, R.I.). Fradette's single gave the Skyhawks the lead for good at 2-1, as the visitors added a pair of key insurance runs in the top of the ninth on a two-run double off the bat of senior Sean Lawrence (New Rochelle, N.Y.), and those runs would prove critical as Assumption received an RBI infield single by sophomore Scott Boyle (Cranston, R.I.) and a sacrifice fly from freshman Mike Baillargeon (Worcester, Mass.) to close back to within one. The Greyhounds had the tying and winning runs on base with two outs in the frame, but senior All-America Billy Sittig (West Roxbury, Mass.) induced a game-ending groundout to preserve Stonehill's triumph.

Fradette, Vaughn, junior Tom Aldrich (New Canaan, Conn.) and sophomore Ryan Halloran (Tyngsboro, Mass.) each had two hits as part of 10-hit attack for Stonehill, as junior Chris Herrmann (Chelmsford, Mass.) improved to 2-1 on the mound for the Skyhawks with 2 2/3 innings in relief of freshman Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.), who allowed a run and six hits while fanning two over 5 1/3 innings of work. Sittig earned his first save of the season for the visitors, picking up a strikeout in the final inning in the process.

Boyle, senior Tyler Vivian (Ashland, Mass.) and freshmen Steve Scannell (Worcester, Mass.) and Jeff Barbale (Charlton, Mass.) each had two hits as part of a 14-hit attack in the setback for Assumption, as freshman Brett Kulhawik (Trumbull, Conn.) allowed six hits and no earned runs over 7 2/3 innings with four strikeouts to fall to 0-3 on the mound for the Greyhounds.

Stonehill travels to Waltham, Mass. on Saturday afternoon for a Northeast-10 twinbill with Bentley that begins at Noon, while Assumption heads to Manchester, N.H. on Saturday afternoon for a league doubleheader with Saint Anselm that also begins at Noon.
