SECOND GAME SUSPENDED AFTER 10 INNINGS (DARKNESS) TIED AT 3-3

(WILL BE COMPLETED BEFORE REGULARLY SCHEDULED GAME SUNDAY AT AIC)

EASTON, Mass.-- Senior Sean Lawrence (New Rochelle, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs with a pair of doubles to lead Stonehill to a 12-6 Northeast-10 Conference baseball victory over American International Saturday afternoon at Gorman Field. The two teams had the second game of their twinbill suspended after 10 innings tied at 3-3, and that contest will be completed tomorrow.

The host Skyhawks (6-8, 2-0 Northeast-10) overcame a 4-0 fourth inning deficit in the opener by plating eight runs in the middle frames, as RBI singles off the bats of senior T.J. Piscatelli (Norfolk, Mass.) and sophomore David Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.) in the fourth, followed by an error and an RBI single by junior Max Vigliotti (Stamford, Conn.), enabled Stonehill to tie the score, and the hosts took a 6-4 lead after five on back-to-back RBI doubles by Lawrence and Piscatelli. A pair of errors and a sacrifice fly by junior Tom Aldrich (New Canaan, Conn.) staked the Skyhawks to an 8-4 edge, and a three-run double by Lawrence in the eighth provided insurance for Stonehill.

Lawrence, Piscatelli and Fradette each had two hits in the opener for Stonehill, as junior Nick SantaBarbara (Middleton, Mass.) picked up the win on the mound by allowing just two earned runs over seven innings and fanning six. Sophomore Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.) went 4-for-4 in the opener with an RBI double for the visiting Yellow Jackets (4-5, 1-2 Northeast-10), while junior Tyler Cooke (Brattleboro, Vt.) drove in a pair of runs for American International, which also received an RBI groundout off the bat of freshman Bryan Turney (Auburn, Mass.). Sophomore Uchon Yi (Windsor Locks, Conn.) took the loss on the mound for the visitors in the opener, allowing just two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings of work with a pair of strikeouts.

Stonehill and American International close out their three-game Northeast-10 weekend set on Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Mass. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
