SMITHFIELD, R.I.-- Junior Coley Lyons (West Roxbury, Mass.) went 3-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs to back a complete-game effort on the mound by fellow junior Nick SantaBarbara (Middleton, Mass.) as Stonehill posted its fourth straight victory with a 5-2 Northeast-10 Conference baseball triumph over Bryant Wednesday afternoon at the Bryant Baseball Complex.

The visiting Chieftains (22-15, 15-10 Northeast-10) snapped a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Lyons and fellow junior Sean Lawrence (New Rochelle, N.Y.), and an RBI triple off the bat of sophomore Adam Pardo (Hanover, Mass.) in the eighth gave Stonehill an insurance tally. The Chieftains jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead on a Lyons RBI single, but the host Bulldogs (21-18, 15-12 Northeast-10) answered back with both of their runs in the bottom of the frame on a two-run single by sophomore Mike Rocco (Tewksbury, Mass.). Stonehill evened matters in the second on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.), and the score remained tied until the late inning Chieftain heroics.

Pardo, senior Craig Audette (Raynham, Mass.) and junior T.J. Piscatelli (Norfolk, Mass.) each had two hits as part of a 13-hit Stonehill attack, as SantaBarbara allowed eight hits and one earned run while striking out five to improve to 6-2 on the mound for the Chieftains. Juniors Nick Tucarella (Salem, N.H.) and Adam Rourke (Rowley, Mass.) each had a pair of hits in the setback for Bryant, as senior Stephen Sloan (Franklin, Mass.) allowed nine hits and two earned runs while fanning three in 6 2/3 innings to fall to 5-4 for the Bulldogs on the mound.

Stonehill hosts 26th-ranked Southern Connecticut in a Northeast-10 doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Spillane Field in Wareham, Mass. beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Bryant heads to Lowell, Mass. on Friday afternoon to take on UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 outing at LeLacheur Park that begins at 4:00 p.m.
