Stonehill Athletics to Celebrate Volunteer Service at “Community Day”

Local volunteer efforts will be recognized during Saturday’s basketball games

EASTON, Mass. (January 27, 2011) – The Stonehill College Athletic Department and Office of Campus Ministry will celebrate the first annual “Community Day” during the Skyhawks’ home basketball doubleheader on Saturday, January 29. Stonehill will take on The College of Saint Rose, with the women tipping off at 1:30 p.m. and the men at 3:30 p.m. in Merkert Gymnasium.

Saturday’s event will recognize individuals and organizations from Stonehill and the surrounding Easton and Brockton area who volunteer their time and talents to the community. Representatives from campus clubs and local nonprofits will be honored at a ceremony during halftime of the 1:30 game. A reception will follow the 3:30 game in the Merkert Gymnasium lobby, at which students and fans can meet with Stonehill clubs and local organizations to find out how to get involved on and off campus.

Stonehill student groups taking part in Community Day will include the Africa Service Project, Circle K International, Diversity on Campus, and Providing a Responsible Inclusive and Diverse Environment (PRIDE). Also attending will be the Boys and Girls Club of Brockton, Father Bill's & MainSpring, and the House of Possibilities.
