The 2005 Stonehill women’s lacrosse team produced perfection in posting the lone undefeated season in program history on its way to the program’s second NCAA Division II National Championship in three years. Stonehill capped off its seventh consecutive Northeast-10 regular season title, its fifth straight in undefeated fashion, with a 10-0 mark. The team coasted to a 16-3 victory over second-seeded Merrimack to capture a sixth straight NE-10 Tournament title behind five points from Colette Carpenter. Erin Acone earned her second-straight NE-10 Player of the Year award. Michael Daley received NE-10 Coach of the Year accolades for the fifth time and Meaghan Carey was named Defensive Player of the Year and Kristin Darrell, Freshman of the Year to highlight nine All-Conference selections. In the NCAA Tournament, in West Chester, Pa., Stonehill posted a 16-10 victory over Adelphi in the semifinal round, before notching a 13-10 triumph over host West Chester in the National Championship game as tournament MVP Lauren Stone made ten saves and Colby Confer netted three goals, becoming the first road team to win the women’s lacrosse crown. Acone, Stone, Darrell, Confer, Jenny McGrath and Kate Sarkissian all earned All-America honors, while Daley was named the IWLCA Division II Coach of the Year.
