A premier shooter
and rebounder and good baseball player, George
Peterson, a 1964 graduate, died in 1988. His teammates
remember his corner jump shots that made him a career 1,604-point
scorer. Peterson was an explosive scorer and led the Chieftains to
several outstanding seasons. He was selected by Catholic Digest as
Stonehill’s first All Catholic All American. As a sophomore,
George received honorable mention on The Associated Press All New
England Team. A math major, George taught mathematics at Nassau
Community College on Long Island. He earned his MBA from St.
John’s University in 1971. He soon moved to Citibank, where
he became vice president of investment and banking. He went on to
become vice president at Westpac Pallock Co. His wife, Mary
Catherine, and his daughters Karen and Kristen currently live in
Glen Head, N.Y.
