The career of Ann Mallory paralleled Bob Reitz
for the Lady Chieftains. She was Stonehill’s first impact
scorer and legitimate center, who led the Lady Chieftains to their
first-ever Northeast-8 Conference Championship in 1982-83. The
Martha’s Vineyard high school star established 14 new Lady
Chieftain standards when she graduated in 1983. She was Coach Paula
Sullivan’s first 1,000-point scorer, finishing with 1,510, a
record which stood for many years. During her career she was a 49
percent shooter from the floor, giving women’s basketball a
new dimension.
After her senior year, Ann’s No. 24 jersey was retired
along with teammate Nancy Smith (No.11) who was inducted into the
Hall of Fame in 1989. Ann left her mark at Stonehill and know
resides in Winter Spring, Fla., where she serves the community as a
police officer.
