Men’s soccer was one of the original varsity sports at Stonehill College. Angelo Caranfa, Jr., a 1962 graduate of Brockton High School, became Stonehill’s first and only All-American soccer player in 1965. Playing for then coach John Heslin of Bridgewater, Caranfa played mostly in the midfield. A crafty player with excellent soccer skills, Caranfa helped give the Chieftains immediate respect. A resident of Brockton all his life, Caranfa went on to Boston College where he earned his master’s degree in political philosophy. He is a freelance writer.
