Women's Swimming Wraps Semester Schedule at Harold Anderson Invitational

Skyhawks qualify for three individual finals on final day to complete seventh place finish

KINGSTON, R.I. (November 19, 2023) – Stonehill College wrapped up its first semester schedule by competing in six event finals on the third and final day of the 2023 Harold Anderson Invitational, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, at Tootell Aquatic Center today.

Senior Sydney Stockwell qualified for the B-final in the 200-yard backstroke and finished second in the final and tenth overall in 2:07.45. She posted a third-place finish in the A-final of the 100-yard backstroke on Saturday in a school-record breaking 57.15-seconds. Stockwell qualified tenth overall in this morning's prelims in 2:07.53.

Junior Jami Hepburn qualified for her second B-final of the weekend, finishing 15th overall and seventh in her final for the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:28.81. Sophomore Kristy Barry competed in the C-final and finished 24th overall and seventh in her final in a season-best 2:30.36. Hepburn qualified 12th overall in the prelims this morning in a season-best 2:25.96, while Barry qualified 23rd in 2:30.62.

Stonehill closed the weekend out with a 16th place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a season-best 3:51.79. Barry swam the lead 100-yard leg in 55.05-seconds, followed by Stockwell with a 54.81-second split, before postgrad Nika Sokolova completed the third leg in 55.35 and then freshman Grace Idowu finished the anchor leg in 58.19-seconds.

Stonehill closed out the three-day Invitational in seventh place with 110.5 points. The University of Vermont won the team title with 849 points, followed by host Rhode Island in second with 752 points and fellow NEC member Wagner College third (529). The Skyhawks rewrote five school records over the three days, qualifying for 12 individual finals.

  • Idowu placed 33rd in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.78-seconds in the prelims. Sophomore Isabel Nelson finished 41st in 56.24-seconds, while senior Katie Keating was 43rd in 57.39. Freshman Sherri Danforth followed in 46th in a personal-best 57.76 and classmate Isabella Rodriguez was 47th in 57.83. Sophomore Mazy Karuzis clocked in at 57.95-seconds for 49th, followed by junior Julie Mastroianni in 50th in a personal-best 58.14-seconds and then sophomore Taylor Belanger in 51st in a personal-best 58.58.

Stonehill wrapped up the first semester portion of its 2023-24 schedule with this weekend's meet and will return to the pool after the New Year, when it visits Brandeis University for a dual meet on Wednesday, January 17, at 6 p.m.
