Stockwell & Barry Lead Another Record Breaking Day at Harold Anderson Invitational

Stockwell posts top three backstroke finish in record time, while Barry breaks three school marks in reaching two individual finals

KINGSTON, R.I. (November 18, 2023) – Stonehill College enjoyed another record-breaking day and placed seven in individual finals to highlight day two of the 2023 Harold Anderson Invitational, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, at Tootell Aquatic Center today.

Senior Sydney Stockwell highlighted the second day for Stonehill with a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke final in a school-record 57.15-seconds, breaking her own record for the second time in as many days after opening yesterday's school-record 200-yard medley relay in 57.35-seconds. She qualified third overall in this morning's prelims in 57.65.

Freshman Grace Idowu qualified for the B-final and finished 14th overall and sixth in her final in 59.56-seconds after qualifying 15th this morning in 59.24 while making her collegiate debut in the event. Sophomore Mazy Karuzis qualified for the C-final and finished 23rd overall and seventh in her race in 1:00.77 after qualifying 21st overall this morning in a personal-best 59.71.

Sophomore Taylor Belanger and junior Jami Hepburn both qualified for the B-final for the 100-yard breaststroke. Belanger finished tenth overall and second in her final with a time of 1:06.60, while Hepburn finished 15th overall and seventh in the B-final in 1:07.27. Hepburn qualified 11th in a season-best 1:06.30 in this morning's prelims, with Belanger 12th in a personal-best 1:06.45.

After breaking her own school record at 200-yards, sophomore Kristy Barry qualified for the B-final of the 400-yard individual medley relay and finished 15th overall and seventh in the final in 4:43.53. She qualified 15th overall in this morning's prelims in a school-record 4:42.91, breaking her previous mark of 4:43.96 at the 2023 Northeast Conference Championships.

Stonehill's 200-yard medley relay finished 12th in tonight's first final in 1:49.38. Stockwell swam the lead backstroke leg in 27.11-seconds, followed Hepburn with a 30.25-second split for the breaststroke leg before senior Katie Keating completed the butterfly leg in 27.58-seconds and then Idowu finished the freestyle anchor leg in 24.44-seconds.

Stonehill placed 14th in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 8:06.47. Barry swam the lead 200-yard leg in a school-record 1:58.34, followed by sophomore Azia Koser with a 2:00.92 split on the second leg, while Keating clocked in with a 2:04.99 third leg and then postgrad Nika Sokolova swam the anchor leg in 2:02.22.

Stonehill remains in seventh place in the team standings after scoring 49.5 points today for a total of 87.5 over the first two days of the Invitational. The University of Vermont leads the way with 606 points, leading host Rhode Island with 538 points and fellow Northeast Conference member Wagner College third with 384.

  • Sokolova placed 40th in the 200-yard freestyle prelims in 2:03.19, while senior Maddie Conley placed 44th in 2:07.37 and junior Julie Mastroianni finished 45th in 2:07.98.
