Three women's lacrosse honorees mark the most in a single-season in program history

College Sports Communicators Announce Academic All-District® At Large Teams

EASTON, Mass. (May 25, 2023) – A program-record three members of the Stonehill College women's lacrosse program have earned a spot on the 2023 Academic All-District® At Large team by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA).

Senior All-American Lydia Rudden leads the group as the fourth women's lacrosse student-athlete from Stonehill to earn Academic All-District® honors twice with a spot for the second-straight year. She is joined by classmate and fellow All-American Victoria Butler and sophomore Mallory Crispens on the Academic All-District® At Large team to give the program multiple honorees for the first time in program history. The trio are the first honorees in the program's NCAA Division I era, and give the women's lacrosse program 12 Academic All-District® honorees all-time, with Rudden joining Amy Bartlett, '02, Erin Acone, '06, both members of the Stonehill Athletics Hall of Fame, and Samantha Lynott, '12 as two-time honorees.

The College Sports Communicators women's At Large Academic All-America® program includes student-athletes competing in bowling, rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, and water polo. Stonehill's three honorees are now eligible for Academic All-America® selection, voted on by CSC members, to be announced June 22.

Rudden earns a spot on the Academic All-District® team for the second time after being named Stonehill's Edward E. Martin Senior Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the College's end of the year Athletics Awards night earlier this month. She graduated over the weekend with a Bachelor of Arts degree, having achieved a 3.87 cumulative grade point average as a philosophy major and business administration minor, and will attend Boston College Law School as a Juris Doctor candidate. The Moreau Honors Scholar received the Outstanding Philosophy Student Award this spring, been named to the Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll all eight semesters. She is a Moreau Honors Program mentor, writing tutor at the Center for Writing and Academic Achievement and teaching assistant at the Meehan School of Business.

Rudden earned NE10 Academic All-Conference honors as a sophomore and junior, also collecting the NE10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award in 2022, and was named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll all six semesters prior to the College's transition to NCAA Division I. She is a three-time St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, Medal recipient for having the highest cumulative GPA on the team and conducted philosophical research on ethical leadership to develop a capstone course for Stonehill's ethical leadership minor.

Rudden served as a captain for the Stonehill women's lacrosse program this season as she earned All-Northeast Conference first team honors after leading the NEC in scoring with 72 points and assists with 48 – ranking seventh nationally in assists and second with 3.20 assists per game. The assist total is tied for third on Stonehill's all-time single-season list, along with her sister, Brooke Rudden, '15, behind her own single-season record of 77 assists in 2022. She also scored 24 goals this spring to rank fourth on the team, while adding 16 ground balls and five caused turnovers in 15 games.

Rudden, a two-time first team All-Conference selection over her career, earned first team All-America and All-East Region honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) as a junior. The 2022 NE10 Attack of the Year posted just the third 100-point season in program history that season, finishing with a program-record 119, on her way to 237 points in 49 career games to rank eighth all-time at Stonehill, with 83 goals and program-record 154 assists.

Butler earns Academic All-District® honors for the first time, having graduated with a Bachelor's Degree on Sunday as a biology major with a 3.60 GPA. She earned NE10 Academic All-Conference honors as a junior and has been inducted to Sigma Zeta honor society. Butler earned NE10 Academic Honor Roll status all six semesters prior to the College's transition to NCAA Division I and been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all eight semesters along with earning Dean's List status.

Butler, an IWLCA second team All-American and All-Region and All-NE10 first team honoree as a junior, started all 15 games for Stonehill this spring while serving as a team captain. She scored 15 goals and added 19 ground balls, 63 draw controls and six caused turnovers, ranking fourth among NEC leaders in draw controls with a total that ranks tenth on the program's all-time single-season list, while her 86 draws as a junior ranks sixth all-time. Butler appeared in 50 games over her Stonehill career, starting 46, and totaled 41 goals and three assists for 44 points, adding 87 ground balls, 157 draw controls and 45 caused turnovers to finish seventh all-time at Stonehill for career draws.

Crispens also earns Academic All-District® honors for the first time, having achieved a 3.70 cumulative GPA as a biology major at Stonehill. She was named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll both semesters as a freshman, while earning Athletic Director's Honor Roll status all four semesters as well as Dean's List honors.

Crispens is a two-time All-Conference selection with second team All-NEC honors this spring after being named to the All-NE10 third team and All-Rookie Team as a freshman. She helped spearhead the Stonehill defensive effort this spring, starting all 15 games and finishing second on the team with 13 caused turnovers, to go with a team-high 29 ground balls. Crispens has started all 36 games of her collegiate career, totaling 77 ground balls and 40 caused turnovers, while chipping in with one assist.

Stonehill finished its inaugural NCAA Division I season tied for third in the final Northeast Conference standings with a 5-3 mark in NEC play. The Skyhawks notched their first Division I win at FDU (22-7) on March 18 and also posted a road win against LIU (15-11), an NEC Tournament participant on April 12. Stonehill placed five student-athletes on All-NEC teams, including a trio of first team picks.
