Softball Ranked Third in NE-10 Northeast Division Preseason Poll

Softball looks forward to strong season.

Easton, Mass. (February 7, 2013) – The Stonehill Skyhawks softball team is ranked third in the Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division preseason poll which was released Thursday afternoon.

The softball team is coming off a season in which they went 24-15 overall and 17-13 in the NE-10. The Skyhawks earned a NE-10 tournament bid, but lost to first-seeded Southern Connecticut 4-3 in extra innings.

Coach Ken LeGrice, in his fourth season with the Skyhawks, returns five starters from last season's team. Leading the group is Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass.); the senior started all 39 games, batting .408 with 27 RBIs, 51 hits, three home runs, two triples, 10 doubles, 19 runs scored, and a .592 slugging percentage. Eisenmann was recognized for her excellent performance with NE-10 All-Conference Second Team honors.

Seniors Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn.) and Courtney Marchard (Raymond, N.H.) also started every game for the Skyhawks last season. Wilcox hit .314 with 27 RBIs, 38 hits, three home runs, three triples, 10 doubles, 19 runs scored, and a .521 slugging percentage. Wilcox, a catcher, posted a .995 fielding percentage behind the plate and caught seven runners stealing in 17 attempts. Marchand batted .263 with 15 RBIs, 31 hits, 27 runs scored, and seven stolen bases.

Junior Lindsay McKillop (East Meadow, N.Y.) will lead a group of young pitchers this season. The junior logged 60.1 innings last year, posting a 5-4 record with a 3.60 ERA, three complete games, and 18 strikouts for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill opens the season against Wilmington University (Del.) March 2, 2013 in Clermont Fla. The Skyhawks will begin NE-10 play March 14 against nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State, which ranks fifth in the NFCA top 25 preseason poll.
