Bloomfield Tops Stonehill Twice

Deacons post 7-2 win in game one, rally for 4-3 victory in game two

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (March 26, 2011) – Bloomfield College picked up a pair of wins over Stonehill College in a non-conference softball doubleheader at Clark Field this afternoon. Bloomfield posted a 7-2 victory in game one, before rallying for a 4-3 decision in the nightcap.

Bloomfield scored all seven runs in the first two innings, keyed by a five-run second, to post a 7-2 win in game one.

Senior Ashley Langlois (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) was 1-for-2 with a walk and RBI at the plate for Stonehill. Sophomore Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) chipped in by going 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Junior Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) took the loss (0-3), despite retiring 14 of the last 15 batters she faced. She allowed seven runs, six earned, on nine hits with two strikeouts and no walks over six innings in the complete game.

Stonehill struck first with a run in the top of the first as junior Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) singled, was sacrificed to second, and scored on a single by Eisenmann. Bloomfield answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the first when senior Bianka Cosme (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) doubled ahead of a home run by sophomore Ashleigh Williams (Manassas, Va./Highland).

Bloomfield took control with five runs in the second with all the damage coming on six singles. Stonehill rounded out the scoring in the sixth as freshman Angela Moskwa (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) reached on an error and then advanced to third on two wild pitches before coming home on a single by Langlois.


Nicole Eisenmann had RBI hits in both games, smacking her second home run of the season in game two.
Bloomfield 4, Stonehill 3

Bloomfield erased a three run deficit and rallied for a 4-3 victory in game two against Stonehill. Sophomore Krystina Poloni (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) delivered the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the sixth that scored senior Amanda Bartels (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) who reached with a single.

Nicole Eisenmann and sophomore Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) both batted 1-for-3 for Stonehill with home runs. Wilcox finished with two RBI.

Junior Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) took the loss (1-3) in the circle for Stonehill, allowing an earned run on six hits with a walk and strikeout in 2.2 innings of relief. Freshman Nicole Schneider (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) started for the Skyhawks and yielded three earned runs on five hits over 3.1 innings.

Stonehill got on the board with a run in the top of the first when Eisenmann belted her second home run of the season with a two-out solo shot. The Skyhawks extended their lead to three runs in the third as Chelsea Stryker singled and scored when Wilcox followed with her fourth home run of the year with one out.

Bloomfield drew within a run in the home half of the third when senior Kira Wagar (Rochester, N.Y.) singled and scored on a two-out homer by Bianka Cosme. The Deacons knotted the score in the fourth with a bases-loaded single by sophomore Lindsey Ciresa (White House, N.J./Somerville) before scoring the deciding run in the sixth.

Stonehill (4-12, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Tuesday when it opens its Northeast-10 schedule on Tuesday with a doubleheader at the University of Massachusetts Lowell at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks are scheduled to open their home schedule with a Northeast-10 twin bill with Saint Michael's College on Saturday, April 2, at 1 p.m.
