Freshmen lead Skyhawks to second dual match win this fall

EASTON, Mass. (September 26, 2018) – Stonehill College continued its fall schedule with a 6-3 victory over Emerson College in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts tonight.

Freshmen Juan Camilo Riano Rojas and Luke Mendoza were both double-winners to lead Stonehill to its second dual match win in as many attempts this fall. Riano Rojas first teamed up with junior Samuel Miller for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles that clinched a 2-1 Skyhawks edge in the match after doubles play. Riano Rojas followed that up with a 6-0, 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles against Emerson junior Brock Higley.

Mendoza and sophomore Joey Conrod breezed to an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles for Stonehill. Mendoza would drop just one game over his three sets of play on the evening, following that up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles against junior Bernando Garza. Junior Aaron Diamond and freshman Vincent Huynh also collected singles wins for the Skyhawks tonight.

Freshman Bassy Lin was a double-winner for Emerson, teaming up with senior Daniel Okin for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Lin followed that up with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Miller at No. 1 singles. Freshman Maximo Lawlor also earned a singles win over the Eagles.

Stonehill (2-0, 0-0 NE10) returns to action on Friday, when it visits UMass Dartmouth for a non-conference match at 3:30 p.m. Emerson (0-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) hosts Johnson & Wales University on October 7.
