Men's Tennis Opens with Win at Regis, 9-0

WESTON, Mass. (September 7, 2018) – Stonehill College opened its fall schedule with a 9-0 victory over Regis College in non-conference men's tennis action at the Regis Tennis Center this evening.

Sophomore Russell White and freshman Vincent Huynh led five double winners for Stonehill in the season-opening win. The duo combined for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles for the Skyhawks and then White followed that up with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles against Regis freshman Sebastian Torres. Huynh, a transfer from West Liberty University, breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles against senior Luke Horton.

Junior Samuel Miller and freshman Juan Camilo Riano Rojas teamed up for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles for Stonehill. Miller, a transfer from Saint Francis (Pa.) University and the son of head coach Peter Miller, '75, added a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles for the Skyhawks, while Riano Rojas posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4. Freshman Luke Mendoza rounded out Stonehill's double-winners with victories at No. 3 doubles, along with sophomore Joey Conrod, and No. 6 singles. Junior Aaron Diamond rounded out the Skyhawks point-winners with his 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow, when it hosts its annual Stonehill Doubles Invitational at Charles Watt Tennis Courts and inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex at 9 a.m. Regis (0-1, 0-0 GNAC) visits Saint Anselm College on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
