Regionally-ranked Falcons sweep singles after winning top two doubles flights

WALTHAM, Mass. (March 29, 2018) – Bentley University, ranked No. 7 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings, swept through singles play on its way to an 8-1 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at Brandeis University today.

Seniors Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao) led three double-winners for Bentley, which swept the six singles matches after gaining a 2-1 edge after doubles play. The duo, ranked No. 6 in the Oracle/ITA East Region doubles rankings, clinched the doubles edge with their 8-4 win at No. 1. McCarthy followed that up by battling from a set down against Stonehill senior Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) for a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 triumph at No. 1 singles. Samander added a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles against freshman Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington).

Seniors Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) and Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) teamed up to earn Stonehill's point with their 8-4 decision at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) won the opening set against Bentley freshman Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, New York/Roslyn) before falling 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

Stonehill (7-6, 1-3 NE10) returns to action on Tuesday, April 3, when it hosts Adelphi University for its Purple and White match at 3:30 p.m. Bentley (11-6, 3-2 NE10) hosts regionally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
