NE10 Tennis Weekly Report

EASTON, Mass. (February 20, 2018) – Stonehill College freshman Russell White (Toronto, Ontario/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for men's tennis for the second time this year by the league office today.

White was a double-winner in Stonehill's 5-4 triumph over Saint Thomas Aquinas College, ranked No. 6 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings, and finished a 1-1 season-opening weekend against regionally-ranked opponents with a combined 2-2 record in singles and doubles play. He teamed up with sophomore Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles in the win over STAC, and then followed that up with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 3 singles over Spartans senior Eddy de Abreu.

White, who also collected NE10 Rookie of the Week honors back on September 12, along with classmate Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington), has posted a combined 8-6 record in singles and doubles play early on in his collegiate career. He has split his six singles matches, having seen time at both No. 2 and No. 3. White is 5-3 in doubles play with two different playing partners. He is 2-1 with Ravichandrakumar after posting a 3-2 record with Newman in the fall, with the pairing winning the A-bracket at the season-opening Stonehill Doubles Invitational back in early September.

Stonehill (2-2, 0-0 NE10) returns to action with a pair of non-conference dual matches this weekend, starting Friday against Gordon College at Manchester Athletic Club, in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, at 6 p.m. The Skyhawks host Wheaton College inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m.
