Skyhawks mentor steps down following six year association with program, including last four as head coach

Hebert resigns following a six year association with the Stonehill ice hockey program, the last four as head coach. He led the Skyhawks to a 37-58-5 (.395) record over the last four seasons, including a 9-22-1 (.297) clip in Northeast-10 Conference play. Hebert led the Skyhawks to three appearances in the semifinal round of the NE-10 Tournament, reaching the championship game in 2009 before falling to Saint Michael's College, 3-2. He was the associate head coach for Stonehill's NE-10 Championship squad in 2007. The Skyhawks earned the NE-10's Team Sportsmanship Award in each of his first three years as head coach.

"On behalf of Stonehill College, I would like to thank Garry for his commitment to our student athletes over the past four seasons as head coach as well his service as an assistant coach prior to that," said Sullivan. "During his time, Garry has always shown a great care for the success of our student-athletes both academically and athletically, and for that the College is most grateful."

Stonehill is coming off a 2010-11 season where it posted a 5-18-1 record overall, including a 3-7-1 mark in NE-10 play to finish fifth before being edged by fourth-seeded Assumption College in the first round of the NE-10 Tournament, 5-2.

Prior to joining Stonehill, Hebert served as a consultant to NHL and Olympic athletes as the owner of the World Academy of Hockey. He coached at Essex High School, leading the team to multiple state championship titles and a national top-ten ranking, and earned a Coach of the Year award.

A search for Hebert's replacement will begin immediately.
