Skyhawks Release 2009 Schedule

Easton, Mass. - Having won as many games in the past two seasons as the previous four campaigns combined, year number three of the Robert Talley coaching era will commence in late August with a trip to Glenville (W. Va.) State it has been announced by the Stonehill athletic department.

The Skyhawks return several key players for the 2009 season, led by senior Thomas Pfeifer (Babylon, N.Y.) on the offensive line, all-purpose back Eddie Vachon (Newton, Mass.) and outside deep threat David Pringle (West Haven, Conn.).

Defensively, over the past two seasons under Talley, Stonehill is second in the nation in turnover margin (+22).

The Skyhawks and Pioneers will meet for the first time on Thursday, August 27th at 7 p.m. GSC, playing out of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC), finished 2008 at 8-3 overall and scored 50 points in two of its last three games. They return dual threat signal caller James McCants, who accounted for 23 touchdowns a season ago and more than 2,000 yards of total offense.

Stonehill then visits Wagner on Saturday, September 5 for a rematch of last year's historic Skyhawks' win at W.B. Mason Stadium.

American International visits W.B. Mason for the 2009 home opener on September 11 for Stonehill. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Skyhawks 24-10 in Springfield last year on their way to a Northeast-10 crown and their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.

Trips to Merrimack (Friday, September 19) and Northeast-10 newcomer New Haven (Saturday, September 26) dot the schedule before a bye week in early October.

The Skyhawks get back to work on Saturday, October 10 with a home game against Pace at 1 p.m., before travelling back to New Haven for a meeting with Southern Connecticut State on the 17.

Alumni Weekend will see Saint Anselm visit W.B. Mason on Saturday, October 24. Stonehill wraps up the road portion of its schedule with a Friday night contest to Assumption on October 30 and then hosts rival Bentley on Saturday, November 7.
